A passionate side project of mine, designed to turn the struggle into strength.
I spent literal decades pushed around my fate and emotions, making terrible decision after terrible decision, until at 42 I found myself stuck in a dead end retail job with no real hope for the future. My head was full of negative stories about how I was a failure and loser, trapping me in my circumstance.
This is where the story starts. Because of my experience in branding, I knew I could use these concepts to transform myself, I just had to design a brand for myself and set out implementing it. Easier said than done!
What I needed to do was consciously formulate a vision of myself and then make it real it. It was hard, because I absolutely was not in the habit of being strict with myself. I let circumstance and emotions push me around continuously, and never tried to take the upper hand.
What’s branding?
Branding is about creating an impression. You do this to influence behaviour of others to achieve a desired outcome. This is done through repeated implementation of the brand.
It’s is all about fostering belief.
What’s personal branding?
Personal branding is all about creating an image of yourself that you can be proud of. It’s about influencing your own self-perception, by acting like that person over and over again.
Personal branding is about building trust in yourself. Every small step you take to support your brand helps change your self-image. When you achieve your goals, it shows that your new self is real.
It’s not about pretending to be someone you’re not. It’s about speeding up your growth by hacking your identity. Your new self is just as real as your old self. Why not take control of you? Why leave it to everything else to shape you?
