This came to me via an introductory email from Animals Australia’s new project, Unleashed. For fans of humane oriented alternative music, or humane anything for that matter, I’m sure the site will be interesting to browse. There are plenty of things for inspiration as well as food for thought. Speaking is Serj Tankian, frontman from […]

Thanks to What Really Happened for this one: Obviously animals have souls, thus enjoy breaking the rules too ;) I love it when he checks inside the store to see if anyone’s looking his way.
This is a fantastic film documenting the kind hearts of a few people who face up to factory farming, and rescue downed cows, trashed chicks, featherless chickens, and restore them to health at their farm sanctuary. A must watch for every human. Thanks ‘Tribe of Heart Productions’ for this great documentary. Alistair from Whirled Peas wonders why people make informed choices wrongly.
While I have tremendous respect for all people who campaign to reduce the suffering of animals, I must say, the work of Gary Francione has opened my eyes to a contradiction that’s been lingering in my mind for a while.
I’m looking over at the BBC blog for their program Newsnight. One comment, nestled among many, has revealed to me the ultimate problem with our civilization. The blog’s topic and first paragraph was: “The best solution would be for us all to become vegetarians”. So suggested the head of the UN climate agency, Yvo de […]
Dear Australians In the near future we may be called on to step up to a challenge – and we should answer well and quickly when that time comes. Australia is forecast to produce around 20% of the world’s grain in 2008. Usually we would feed 60% or so of that grain to animals, and […]
This place is so beautiful, just like life is so precious – full of feeling and consciousness at every turn, in every being. Actually this whole world should be a paradise for every thing with two eyes and a brain… But wait…
“If cows produce a fifth of the world’s GHG the best way to cut emissions is to eat all the cows.” Hmmm. Nope.
A quick analysis of the FAO figures for expected cereal production and use in 2007/2008 reveals that much more food is wasted in feeding livestock than used in biofuel production. The global cereal output in 2008 will be around 2126 million tones (mt). Of this, it is expected that 1006mt will be eaten directly as […]
Warning: this post portrays naked reality There was no shaking or painful spasm as this image was taken – moments after she was shot by the bolt gun. There was just sadness. The cow cried and slid down the chute to be hung by a leg and ripped to pieces. Tears are shed, presumably for […]
This is the best news I’ve heard in a while…. from Jack’s blog at PETA… But I haven’t even gotten to the best news yet. That vegan fried-chicken meal that I ate with the KFC Canada head honcho in December might not be his last. Per our agreement, KFC Canada will now be adding a […]
From the influential food critic of the New York Times, the call for Americans to reduce their meat consumption by 50%, and to end industrial animal agriculture, should pack more punch. I hope so, anyway. The truth is out there: vegetarianism is healthy, environmentally friendly, affordable and smart. That Mark is not a vegetarian only […]
Senator Andrew Bartlett on Veg*nism for the Environment - May 6, 2008 - Uncategorized
Video Here! In the face of the country’s worst drought in a century, the government is preparing measures to address water scarcity and expected severe weather. Senator Bartlett: Even before climate change became a big issue, we had big issues here in Queensland in Australia about land clearing for example and the impact that had […]
But if everyone just went without meat and dairy products for a day – or ideally pledged to halve their overall ongoing consumption, it would have a much larger and more immediate impact than turning off more of our lights more often. Changing to a more greenhouse friendly diet is one of the easiest things […]

I just made a comment on Steven White’s article on the growing momentum for animal law reform. It’s a movement sorely needed in our world where the unsanctionalble exploitation of animals occurs out of the public eye but on a scale unimaginable to most. Increasingly, lawyers are striving to increase knowledge of animal welfare law, […]
“What is surprising to me is that these chimps have no chemist, no lab… They simply move in and collect plants and eventually find themselves getting cured,” the 27-year-old marvelled. “It’s a proof that they are very close to us.”Around 100 different kinds of plants have already been sampled in Kibale since the start of […]
